MANILA--Onic Philippines took an early lead in the Snapdragon Mobile Masters after sweeping their Day 1 assignments on Monday in Jakarta.
The reigning MPL Philippines and M6 champion was the only undefeated team left in Group A following back-to-back wins against the Chinese squad Ybingame and the MPL Indonesia champ Team Liquid Indonesia.
Onic PH first drubbed Ybingame with a 2-0 sweep before needing a reverse sweep to reassert its dominance against Liquid ID in the rematch of the M6 Grand Finals.
Liquid ID and Ybingame eventually ended up tied for second place with Papara SuperMassive and Influence Rage at 1-1.
The other Filipino team in the field, Team Falcons Philippines, went 1-1 in its Day 1 doubleheader to tie Aurora Turkiye for third place in Group B.
Falcons PH fell prey to Onic Indonesia in their opening assignment, 1-2, but bounced back by sweeping Aurora Turkiye, 2-0.
The win was a revenge of sorts for the entire Team Falcons club as Falcons PH avenged Falcons MENA's loss to Aurora Turkiye earlier in the day.
Onic Indonesia ended Day 1 tied for first place with fellow MPL Indonesia contender RRQ Hoshi at 2-0, although the latter went 4-for-4 in their games played to earn the tiebreaker.
Falcons MENA, meanwhile, dropped to the bottom of Group B with Alpha7 at 0-2.
